Skridskonätet
Nordic skating on natural ice is an experience beyond the ordinary.
The vast ice sheets are our arena, the sweeping views our companions.
Beyond the plowed rinks of home ice, adventures, freedom, and close contact with nature await.
Together with fellow skaters, memories are created to cherish long after the tour has ended.
Skridskonätet
Where can we go skating? Is there ice? Is it safe to skate on? How do I find skating companions? Skridskonätet helps you answer these and many other questions.
Skridskonätet is unique – a non-profit association made up of skating clubs in and outside Sweden, giving members access to up-to-date information about ice conditions, their quality and suitability for skating, detailed trip reports, GPS tracks, photos, sign-ups for organized tours, and other valuable ice information.
To access all this, you need to be a member of a club affiliated with Skridskonätet. With the help of the map on this page, you can easily find a club near you. Contact them to learn how to become a member. Procedures vary between clubs, but you are often offered a welcome program that includes both theory and practice. These usually take place early in the season, so make sure to sign up in time.

Skating together
Nordic skating is not only a physical activity that offers a powerful nature experience – it’s also a highly social activity. Safety requires that we skate in groups, so companionship is both natural and effortless. Since skating is suitable for almost everyone, it’s an excellent way to meet across generations. Within the organized activities of skating clubs, there are also many opportunities to connect off the ice

I skate Nordic because I think it’s the best thing you can do in winter, and when I skate, it’s usually with Stockholm Ice Sailing Club because there are such wonderful people there. I’ve made several new friends thanks to skating – friends I would probably never have met otherwise. And I’ve skated on ice I would never have found on my own. It has given me many great experiences.

For me, Nordic skating is the ultimate outdoor adventure. A trip up to a mountain lake, between lakes in Østmarka, or full-day journeys on ice covering around 100 km – those are tours with a capital T. I find as much joy in going with my wife to the nearest island to light a fire as I do in taking beginners on an intro tour and seeing their pure happiness. As a former climber, I see many similarities between skating and mountaineering. It’s on-sight decision-making all the time, with the difference that the route is never the same again. How fascinating is it that the ice is constantly changing and no day out there is ever alike?

I love the freedom of Nordic skating. I can find new destinations myself, plan and choose safe routes out on the ice, and go further and further. On skates, I can travel quickly and reach fairy-tale landscapes. I most enjoy long ice adventures with a small group. Then it’s important to know your companions and trust them 100 percent.
The best way to start Nordic skating safely is on club tours. On these tours, you meet new people and can find your own like-minded skating group.

I enjoy Nordic skating for many reasons, but above all, I find it exciting to figure out where one might skate and then check if my guess leads to skateable ice. Among other things, the ice must be thick enough and free of snow. Then all the ice information I get through my club and Skridskonätet is a huge help. If I can gather a group of skaters and see their faces when they discover good ice – ice no one thought was there – that’s truly fun
